Wyoming Teacher Certification

So you want to earn your Wyoming Teacher Certification? Here are the step by step instructions to get started:

Traditional Approach for the Wyoming Teacher Certification

1. Earn your Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited university. If you already have a bachelors degree, then be sure to request more information for your Master’s Degree right away
2. Teacher Preparations: This will include teacher prep courses, student teaching, and other types of internships. In order to receive a Wyoming Teacher Certification, you must have some experience in teaching, even if it’s unpaid.
3. Pass a course on the US Constitution and the Wyoming Constituion along with passing a test
4. Pass the Praxis (PTBS) competency exam
5. Order fingerprint cards from (307) 777-7291
6. Submit the following:
   • Completed Application
     • have the Institutional Recommendation section filled out by your certifcation officer
     • have the Verification of Experience section filled out by the Wyoming School Board Chair (if necessary)
   • Official transcripts, degrees, and school credits
   • Application fee of $145 payable to Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board
   • Mail to

Alternative Approach for a Wyoming Teacher Certification

Alternatively, you can still teach in Wyoming before you complete the teacher education program through a program called the Northern Plains Transition to Teaching

1. Obviously you must still earn your Bachelors Degree from an accredited university. Ideally, you should always continue your education in efforts to earn a Master’s degree.
2. Be employed by the Wyoming school district
