How to Become a Teacher in Mississippi: Teacher Certification

Traditional Approach for Mississippi Teacher Certifications

  1. Requirement #1 is a valid college degree from an accredited institution.
  2. In order to receive a Mississippi  Teacher Certification, you must have some experience in teaching, even unpaid.
  3. Pass the Praxis I or the CAAP Exam. Also you must complete the Praxis II (subject area).
  4. Submit the following:
    • Completed Application
    • Official Transcripts of all degrees and credits you have earned
    • Also, include copies of all test scores
    • Mail to:
