How to Become a Teacher in North Carolina: Teacher Certification

Traditional Approach for the North Carolina Teacher Certification

  1. Earn a degree from an accredited college or university. Request and obtain transcripts.
  2. Teacher preparations. This may include teacher prep courses and/or student teaching.
  3. Pass the Praxis I and II Exams.
  4. Submit the following:
    • Completed application form
      • Have your teacher verify the completion
    • Current certifications (if you already have one)
    • $85 Application fee payable to “Department of Public Instruction”
    • Official Transcripts of all degrees and credits you have earned
    • Copies of test scores
